Most Common Types Of Cancer Caused By asbestos

 There are four types of Mesothelioma defined by tumor location.  Pleural (lung lining)(most common), Peritoneal (abdominal lining), Pericardial (heart sac) and testicular.

Fewer than 20,000 cases per year. 

It may take 20-60 yrs or more for mesothelioma to develop after asbestos exposure. However, there is no cure.

There are two key types of lung cancers, Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) and Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC).

13% of lung cancer cases are Small Cell Lung Cancer. Most cases lung cancer can occur at least 15 years after first exposure to asbestos.  Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the US.

Ovarian Cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer related death among woman older than 35. 85%-90% percent of cases are epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Most cases linked to contaminated talcum powder. Research studies linked ovarian cancer to the accumulation of asbestos fibers in ovarian tissue.
